Huge Turnout For QRDC Kick-Off
It was a delayed start to the 2025 AASA State Championship QRDC season after severe weather concerns cancelled the original Round 1 weekend.
With Queenslanders obviously keen to get racing, the weekend saw 7 action packed categories & over 150 drivers deliver some of the best on-track racing we have ever seen!
Jason Grimmond won three out of four races to take the weekend victory in Replica Tourers despite dropping all the way down to 5th in race 2, recovering well in races 3 and 4. Mitch Rice would take second, relying heavily on consistency to finish just 4 points ahead of Brian Smallwood on the third step of the podium.
It was incredibly close in the HQ’s as Joseph Andriske traded race wins with Nick Rangeley, taking out two of the three races to win by just 4 points, but the real story is the THREE WAY TIE FOR THIRD between Scott Andriske, Seth Mathie, and Bruce French with Brock Mathie just one further point behind as well. Incredible results for all involved and some fantastic and respectful racing across the weekend.
Of the many different classes that make up Superkarts, separated by engine size and gearbox options, it was 125 Gearbox class who would make up the bulk of the field. Russell Jamieson won 4 out of the 5 races in dominant fashion, falling to Paul Prineas in the final race. Douglas Amiss would come home second place overall followed by Paul Prineas in third with that single race win under his belt.
250 National was won by Timothy Weier, 125 Non-Gearbox was won by Micah Bradley and 85 Gearbox won by Casey Le Garde. Congratulations to the winners across all categories this weekend.
It was a bright and varied field in Production Sports, lead by Jake Donaldson winning 2 out of the 3 races in his 991.1 Porsche GT3 Cup Car. Glen Ebert would place second in his Toyota Supra, beating several other Porsche GT3 Cup Cars for overall points. Finally, in a humble Mazda MX5, Simon McLean proved consistency is key to come home in third overall.
Australian TransAm saw Andrew Edser run a masterclass, clean sweeping all 5 races. Ian Palmer would finish third in all but race 3 where he secured second place, collecting those all important points to secure second overall for the weekend. Alwyn Bishop would come home in third.
Much like the HQ’s, it was tight at the top of the QLD Excel Cup. The round winner would be Tyler Collins on 230 points who weathered an extremely close battle with Caleb Paterson who lost out overall by just 10 points, trading podium positions with Tyler most races and finishing second overall. Luke Rinaldi would finish third on 197 with a single race win under his belt as well.
Round 2 of the QRDC has been set for the 23rd to 35th of May.
