New Track Attack Series
New for 2025 is the Track Attack Series, a three-round time trial championship run at Winton Motor Raceway throughout the year.
The Track Attack Series will run almost identical regulations as the highly popular annual Aus Time Attack Challenge.
John Boston is the organiser of both the Track Attack Series and Aus Time Attack Challenge, he explained that the Track Attack Series was formed on the basis that these ultra-fast time attack cars only see the light of day once or twice a year.
This new series gives these drivers an opportunity to compete in a series, not just one-off special events.
“A lot of these drivers have cars that sit around and just compete once or twice a year,” he said. “So, I thought, why not give them a three-round series, something to look forward to?
“It was just an idea in my head, I thought it gets more cars and more events happening.
“It is a championship, there will be points awarded at the end of each round, so we will have overall champion for each classes at the end of the season.
“The individual classes are just as important as the outright winner, and they have probably done just as much work.”
The classes are as follows, Clubsprint, Open, Pro, Supercar and Prodsprint. The classes relate solely to levels of car modification, and notably there are no stipulations on the use of tyre brands.
Prodsprint is the entry level class with modification restrictions and tyre limits to contain the costs to compete.
Clubsprint is the class up from Prodsprint, a few freedoms are allowed whilst retaining some restrictions.
Open is another class up again, with further freedoms allowed.
Pro is the highest level of Time Attack in Australia, additional freedoms are allowed beyond the Open Class.
Supercar is designed for cars that are road registered, so you can enter your Porsche, Ford Mustang or whatever you have in your garage.

“It's unlike traditional motorsport, people are used to door-to-door racing, but this is all about racing the clock,” he explained. “Cars are turned up to the max, drivers are trying to find that fastest lap, it’s really exciting to watch.
“Time attack people love it because it's not door to door racing, there's no risk of damage from cars crashing into each other. Essentially, it's like a qualifying session, there might be 15 cars on the track at once, but they are just after a clean and fast lap.”
Boston is expecting big entry numbers for the opening round in all five of the classes.
“Aus Time Attack, which we've run at Winton over the last couple of years nearly sold out at capacity, and I'm expecting the same for Track Attack to be honest,” Boston said.
“I'm just hoping it can grow, I don't want to end up having a seven-round series, because these cars are highly strung, and I'm also very realistic because a lot of them their budgets, it's their own money, they don't have huge sponsors.
“I've got to just plan very carefully to make sure that the events are spread apart. I'm happy for a three-round series and if we can do that and it be successful, I'd be extremely happy.”
Two of the rounds are one day events, however the opening round of the series co-insides with the Aus Time Attack, making it a two-day event.
Round 1 – Saturday June 28 - Sunday June 29 (with Aus Time Attack)
