Calder to conclude VMRC season
The 2025 Victorian Motor Racing Championship (VMRC) is set to end with thunder at Calder Park Raceway from November 8-9.
Calder located on the outskirts of the Melbourne CBD will play host to a vast array of tin top categories, both national and state based.
Notably this round will see the newly appointed Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA) Competition and Commercial Director Marcos Ambrose take on the role of Clerk of Course for the very first time.
One of the headline acts is Stock Cars Australia, a category that includes legitimate NASCARs and AUSCARs that raced in period.
The category contains machines that raced in Australia and America, but also features several Oz Trucks and a couple of TA2 Muscle Cars.
The Thunderdome, the 1.8km banked oval is located at Calder Park. To commemorate the history of the track and cars, AUSCARs and NASCARs that raced in period will be cutting demonstration laps on the Thunderdome during the lunchbreak on Sunday.
Aside from Stock Cars Australia there are a further five entertaining racing categories. Sports Compact, Victorian Super TT, BMW E30s and two fields of Victorian Hyundai Excels.
Sports Compact continues to grow round after round with a huge mix of small, powerful and loud machines.
All of the usual suspects and rivals have entered to compete including series leader James Harris in his Nissan Bluebird, Linda Devlin in her John Cooper Works Mini Cooper S and reigning champion Steve Howard behind the wheel of his Toyota Corolla KE 30.
New names that have come in and had success include Richard Gay driving a Toyota 86 and Neil Chesterton in a Renault Clio Cup Car.
In total 21 cars have entered, ensuring non-stop action when Sports Compact is on track.
The one-make BMW E30 Racing Series boasts a solidly built entry list that is stacked with front-running competitors.
It is certainly going to be competitive out front with youngster Royce Lyne returning to the grid to take on many of his former rivals.
As always, expect a front-running challenge from Jesse Bryan, Rory Plant and Shannon Cooper. However, one of the great things about the E30 Series is that you can never rule anyone out of contention with such a quality entry list.
Victorian Super TT contains a variety of machines from sedans to hatches. It will be stiff competition at the top with multiple Holden Commodores capable of fighting for victory throughout the weekend.
The Commodores are joined by a variety of hatches including a Volkswagen Scirocco, a couple of Nissan Pulsars and even a Proton.
Hyundai Excels have supplied two good entry lists, as once again they have been split into two groups.
One for the elders in the Masters, and one grid full of young up and comers in the Trophy Series. Trophy Series front runners include Daniel Webster and Ryan Phillips.
All of the six categories will contest four races across the course of the weekend making for a weekend of non-stop action.
Great news for passionate race fans is that spectator entry into the final round of VMRC at Calder this weekend is free to all, no matter the age or how long you spend at the venue, it won’t cost a penny.
