Inaugural Hi-Tec Oils AASA Short Track Nationals Series round preview

Tomorrow evening will see the inaugural Hi-Tec Oils AASA Short Track Nationals Series - 2026 Powered by WOLF SPORTS fire into life, under the flood lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Utilising the shorter 2.8km, eight-turn Druitt Circuit, five diverse national categories will put on a show from April 25-26.

The feature category of the very first Hi-Tec Oils AASA Short Track Nationals Series event is the TFH Hire Legend Cars.

It is a huge event for the pocket-rockets, drivers will not only be competing for the honour of becoming the Australian title holder, but the winner will go home with $10,000 in cash.

In total there is a prize pool of $40,000 that will be awarded based on the results of the winner takes all A-Main.

The weekend format is unique as the Legend Cars will be running a Speedway inspired format, it contains multiple heats, a dash, B-Main and A-Main.

All the races across Saturday and Sunday determine the grid order for the winner-takes-all A-Main.

Several Speedway stars will be steering Legend Cars. Sprintcar #1 Jock Goodyer, Australian Super Sedans #1 Joel Berkley, Australian Speedcar champ Kaidon Brown and Super Sedans winner Callum Harper.

As well as this, Super2 Series frontrunner and Supercars Championship co-driver Nash Morris will also be competing, having never driven the car previously. He and his father, Bathurst 1000 winner Paul Morris bought the car only one week ago.

The rest of the field is made up of Legend Car regulars including multiple champions and Australian title winners.

The other categories can’t be forgotten; the Yokohama AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship, Formula RX8 Championship, Stock Cars Australia National Series and AASA TT.

The event at Sydney Motorsport Park is Round 3 of the Yokohama AASA Australian Formula Ford Championship, where the stars of the future will be discovered.

All 17 youngsters that contested Rounds 1 and 2 will be back, they will practice on Saturday, before qualifying and racing on Sunday.

The popular one-make Mazda series, Formula RX8 boasts a large quality entry list. Over 20 of the rotary powered machines will hit the track for Round 2 of their championship. Series leaders, Stiaan Kriel, Cadel Ambrose, Matthew Boylett and Justin Lewis have all entered.

The Stock Cars Australia National Series and AASA TT will share the track. Sunday will be a big day, they will be qualifying and have three races that evening.

The Stock Cars Australia National Series is made up of legitimate NASCARs, AUSCARs and third-tier American trucks. The category is also open to big V8 powered machines including TA2 cars.

AASA TT is a very open category; it allows any kind of tin top car that was originally a road car.

Action takes place from 6.30pm-10.30pm AEST on Saturday and from 2pm-10.30pm on Sunday.

Apex Hunters United founders, Supercars Championship race winner Scott Pye and Trans Am driver Elliot Barbour will host the Hi-Tec Oils AASA Short Track Nationals Series broadcast at Round 1.

Pye and Barbour will also be on pit lane duties as well as joining lead commentator Dan McCarthy in the box in selected sessions.

Legend Cars expert Jai Eccles and Australian Drivers’ Championship racer Niko French round out the commentary team.
