A fabulous Mother’s Day weekend at the track for Roz Moynihan Memorial
The sun was shining and the engines were roaring as fans flocked to the track for a fabulous Mother’s Day weekend packed with excitement, competition, and heartfelt remembrance.
One of the most anticipated weekends on the racing calendar, this year’s event celebrated the annual Roz Moynihan Memorial, alongside the Ladies Novice Race and the ever-entertaining Mechanics Race.
As always, a minimum of six nominations were required per class, and our racing family more than delivered. Across two days of spectacular weather and racing, we saw fierce competition, emotional victories, and an incredible show of community support.
The A Mods fielded a strong lineup with 19 competitors pushing hard over five qualifying heats. Troy Desmond-Veal came out on top in the final, claiming victory over Lachlan Hamilton and Wade Justice. It was a stacked class featuring familiar names like Andrew Cormack, Brad Trainor, the Kakoschke family trio, and the Botheras brothers.
A huge thank you to One One Seven Designs and Campton Graphics for sponsoring the Roz Moynihan Memorial – an emotional and competitive race honouring a much-loved figure in the sport.
Ten DDA Ladies battled through the heats, with Casey Newlan taking the well-earned win. Jasmine Kettels followed in second, Tara Lee third, Katie Kakoschke fourth, and Richalle Warlond rounded out the top five. The field put on a spectacular show in Roz’s memory.
Ten juniors took to the track, showcasing the future stars of dirt racing. Jack Wilson led the field with a commanding win in the final, ahead of Arthur Hutchinson and Kaiden Desmond-Veal. These young guns showed great skill and sportsmanship all weekend.
It was great to see the DDA Street Stocks back on track with six cars in action. Oggie Ahearn, running only on Sunday, made his appearance count by taking out the final. Rick Stowe and David Clark followed in second and third.
With ten Standard Saloons battling it out, the crowd was treated to tight racing and edge-of-your-seat finishes. Rick Stowe lived up to his nickname, “The Stowe Show,” by clinching the win. Andrew Cormack and Aaron Meakins rounded out the podium in a strong field featuring the Cormack clan and more.
Another strong junior class saw ten VSC 1200 racers competing, with Arthur Hutchinson taking the win. His sister, Holley Hutchinson, followed closely behind, with Riley Taylor grabbing third. Great to see family talent shining through!
The Aces of Spades once again thrilled the crowd with a stunning demonstration run, this time in memory of the late Harry Carmen. Sunday’s showcase featured names like Andrew Pridham, Bob Maloney, Peter Dredge, Jet and Glenn Barnett, and more – a fitting tribute.
One of the most entertaining races of the weekend, the Mechanics Race, saw 13 non-regulars and former racers take to the track. Gareth Wilson showed he hadn’t missed a beat, dominating the field. Garry Kakoschke and Peter Ahearn rounded out the top three. The crowd loved every minute of it!
The Novice Ladies Race featured ten fresh competitors with Lea Davey taking the top step on the podium. Ebony Trainor finished second and Kell Garlinge third. A big congratulations to all the ladies who gave it their all!
Thank You to our amazing spectators, competitors, and especially our volunteers – thank you for making this weekend such a success. Your dedication and support are what keep events like this alive and thriving.
That's it from the team for the season, cars will return trackside in September for a practice day before kicking off a great 2025/26 season.
