Mt Brown Hill Climb at York. August 29 2026

Under threatening skies, 53 entrants were keen and eager to tackle the Mt Brown Hill climb. The Triumph Sports Owners Association of WA hosted this event again after reinstating the event last year following a very long hiatus. After the success of the 2025 event, we had no hesitation to run the event again and were pleased when all spots were filled within 48 hours of entries opening with a substantial stand by list.

The course length is approximately 2.2 klm with entrants ascending the hill into a return at the upper car parking area, then back down the hill into a full stop ‘garage’. As the day progressed, times understandably got quicker and quicker. Unfortunately we had an early ‘OFF’ resulting in a 45 minute delay while we recovered the car. But with our highly professional team, we had things back on track with all entrants completing their 4 allocated runs.

Although our club is predominantly Triumph focused, we invited others to bring variety into the mix much to the pleasure of spectators. It’s always difficult to estimate spectator numbers, but according to our food and coffee trucks, their sales were robust all day which is a good indicator.

In no particular order, we prepared a starting order to keep the mix interesting with cars flagged off in quick succession.

As always, our observing officials were a critical element to our safe operating obligations. Their role to manage and control spectators as well as keeping everyone informed of cars on the course that may have penalties applied for cutting corners, colliding with marker cones or driver behaviour that required Clerk of Course intervention was exemplary.

For non Triumph members, there were no trophies apart from a single impressive “King of the mountain’ plaque made from a local hardwood by one of our competition team members. This is awarded to the fastest on the day. This year Rob Turner was the worthy recipient driving a Mitsi EVO. The other trophy on the day went to the fastest Triumph. Won by Geoff Leatt-Hayter, in the Triumph TR7V8.

We are grateful to the York Motoring Enthusiasts group who with their local knowledge and on the ground presence provided the input necessary for this event to happen.

Due to the enthusiastic feed back we received from entrants, along with the local York group, including the Shire of York, we are definitely on again in 2027.
