NZ Endurance Championship Settled On Country's Most Exclusive Circuit
MEGA Pro Series heads into its final two rounds at Hampton Downs', kicking things off on the National Circuit before finishing the season on the full International Circuit: a layout almost no racer ever gets to drive.
Sanctioned by AASA (Australian Auto Sport Alliance), the 2026 MEGA Pro Series is a multi-class, points and laps-accumulating National Endurance Championship, run over 1-hour (dubbed the “FIRECRACKER”), 3-hour and 6-hour formats. Competitors have the opportunity to gather points for all 3 categories, if they’re brave enough to enter multiple races! Teams range from one driver (for the 1 hour Firecracker) to four or more drivers for the 3 & 6 hour (single-car or relay) competing across three classes, split by qualifying lap time rather than raw horsepower or car specification/type, keeping the racing genuinely competitive rather than a one-make procession.
The 2026 season also features the “Suzuki Swift Pro Series” class. This class is expected to grow as the season unfolds, with around 10 purpose-built Swifts expected to tussle at the final round, competing against all the 6 hour GT-pro cars.
The first two rounds of the year are done and dusted, with points on the board and championship battle lines drawn across all three classes. Of the 26 teams entered into this year's championship it is Ghost Dog Racing who lead the Mega-Pro Class on 20 points. Team Pocket Rocket lead the Super-Pro Class on 440 points and GT-Pro has a tie for the lead with DADB Racing and CG Motorsport Suzuki both on 290 points and a round win each!
Round 3 will take place at Hampton Downs National Circuit on the 8th of August before opening the track up to the Full International Layout for the MEGA Pro Series Grand Final on the 29th of August. The complete Grand Prix-spec layout is used for international competition and exclusive private access, the additional corners are rarely opened up for club and endurance-level racing, meaning Round 4 competitors get a genuine bucket-list opportunity most New Zealand racers will never have on their CV.
Eligible cars include current caged race-cars, Production Race cars, V8 Utes, GTRNZ, Suzuki Swift, OK Cup, Honda Cup, BMW Race Series, Porsche Race Series, Mazda Racing Series, Lemons, Limes entries and more. Drivers must be 12+ years of age and require a current civil licence (or guardian indemnity) and an AASA/MSNZ (or equivalent) competition licence. Experience ranges from total novices to National and International champions!
