The Great Tarmac Alpine Rally Ushers in New Landscape for ATR

The Australian Auto Sport Alliance (AASA) is proud to be working with the Australian Tarmac Rally to bring a significant addition to the tarmac rally calendar in 2026: The Great Tarmac Alpine Rally. Marking Australia's first brand-new tarmac rally in almost ten years, this thrilling event will debut on 28–29 March 2026 at Falls Creek, Victoria.

The Great Tarmac Alpine Rally offers a brand new challenge for competitors. Over two intense days, crews will tackle nearly 400 kilometres of competitive tarmac. This includes navigating the demanding Bogong High Plains Road from Mt Beauty to Falls Creek, across the summit, and onto the Omeo Highway. These stages are designed to be a true test of driver skill and car preparation, featuring rapid straights, tight hairpins, and sweeping alpine bends.

The Great Tarmac Alpine Rally is a monumental expansion for ATR, following the successful revival of the Mt Buller Sprint. This growth confirms ATR’s key role in developing high-level, competitive tarmac rallying across Australia—a mission the AASA fully supports through our rigorous sanctioning and insurance processes.

AASA is committed to working closely with the event organisers to ensure every stage meets our stringent safety and logistical requirements, providing a secure and professional environment for all competitors.

Brittany Wilson, Event Director of Australian Tarmac Rally, emphasised the quality of the new event: "The Great Alpine Rally is exactly what modern tarmac rallying should be: world-class stages, stunning scenery, and a true test for competitors. It’s the perfect setting for Australia’s first new tarmac rally in over a decade."

The introduction of the Great Tarmac Alpine Rally cements a powerful and diverse 2026 calendar for the Australian Tarmac Rally series:

  • Mt Buller Sprint: 13 - 15 February 2026

  • Great Alpine Rally: 28–29 March 2026

  • Snowy River Sprint: 12 – 13 September 2026

  • Great Tarmac Rally (3-Day): 23 – 25 October 2026

AASA-licensed competitors can now submit entry applications for the first two events via the WOLF Sports Platform. Applications for the Snowy River Sprint and the first-ever 3-day Great Tarmac Rally will open on 31 March.
