Wide Bay Motor Complex continues to support grass roots and junior drivers

The Wide Bay Motor Complex has been running khanacross and rallysprints under AASA for a little over 5 years now. The journey has not been an easy one, over this time the team have suffered repeated flooding events which disrupt the calendar and just recently a break-in resulted in the theft of much of the facilities equipment including the Triton ute and electronic timing gear.

Community spirit, however, and the support of everyone involved have helped this grass roots organisation live on. During these years the small dedicated team have run successful grass roots events including a Junior Development Driver program which was very well received by the public.

This August the team hosted the Total Auto Services Caloundra Khanacross Round 2 over the weekend of the 2nd & 3rd. The Khanacross was run on the freshly developed section of track which is through a cleared area and highly visible; great for spectators. 19 starters took to the course including 4 junior drivers, something the organisation and AASA is very proud to support. Twelve tests of 1.5km in length were run over the weekend. This included 2 night tests on Saturday night, a highlight for the competitors.

The outright placings at the end of the weekend saw Nick Reid take first overall in his Mirage RS with his father Rod Reid in his Saab coming home second. Third overall was Ben Christensen in his potent little Excel. The Junior class was hotly contested with Piper Power in her Lancer, only just beating Connor Smith in his Corolla. Third place was Mia Power in her Ford Focus and Will Krebs 4th in his Excel.

A great weekend, which was well received by all competitors. WBMC President Ross Perry had only kind words to say, “We love working with AASA as they really understand grassroots clubs.” The next WBMC event will take place on the 21st and 22nd September.
