The inaugural running of the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance sanctioned Tsukiyo Time Attack took place at the historic Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia and was a major success.
In total 54 drivers entered to compete in the event and attracted some notable names in the world of circuit racing and hill climbs including Aussie Racing Car and Touring Car Masters Series winner Joel Heinrich and record breaking hillclimb driver Dan Day.
In fact, it was Subaru WRX STI in the hands of Dan Day that won the event overall, the local South Australian set a blistering 1m 06.535s.
It was non-stop action from 9.45am until well into the night, with the final session ending 12 hours later under the lights at Mallala.
All classes had a minimum of five sessions across the course of the day, with the top three in each category given a bonus shootout session to conclude proceedings.
It was the time attack/hillclimb cars that were the dominant force in the Pro category and overall honours.
Day’s incredible 1m 06.535s saw win the inaugural Tsukiyo Time Attack and did so by over a second and also took out the Pro category.
Brad Trenwith steering his Mazda RX-7 finished in second outright 1.249s back. TVR Tuscan driver Ian Wilson rounded out the outright top three.
Dan Day’s Father Sean Day competed in a Porsche RSR and finished fourth in the Pro category and fourth outright.
Heinrich finished fifth overall and in doing so won the invitational category in his Miniature Race Car setting a time of 1m 12.559s, less than 0.2s behind Sean Day and just 0.005s ahead of Gavin Ward.
Ward was sixth in his Honda Civic, despite missing out on a top five finish he did win the Open class.
Scott Dornan in his legitimate Team Dynamics V8 Supercar from 2004 finished up in seventh ahead of Andrew Wegener in a Honda S2000 and Darcy Heyne in another Miniature Racing Car.
Jonathon Munro rounded out the top 10 in his Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, taking the Clubsprint class in the process.
The sole remaining class winner in Production Sprint was taken out by Luke Bosman in his GR Yaris, he was 14th overall.
David Sargent was the only competitor in the EV class driving an IONIQ 5.
Throughout the day when there was a slight break in proceedings Drifting SA competitors hit the track to thrill the fans with smoking sideways action.
The Tsukiyo Time Attack was a great success and it has been announced in the days since that the event will again take place in 2027.
